Be Warned...Sitting Causes Cancer!

Prolonged sitting promotes killer diseases, including cancer, and according to experts, is as bad for you as smoking!!

Sitting causes cancer. Image: Office.com

Studies show that too much sitting has a grave effect on health and is also a major cancer risk. It seems that large amounts of sitting can become yet another cancer promoting activity.

While prolonged sitting is unlikely to actually trigger cancer - as a carcinogen potentially can - it may however help support cancer (and disease in general) by supplying an favourable environment.

If sitting promotes cancer, then it makes sense to limit your sitting to short periods. It is now discovered to be as harmful to your health as smoking 20 cigarettes a day! However, you can hardly give up sitting!!

But of course you can cut down!

Latest research on a large scale has shown that those that do the most sitting, have a far greater risk of early death. Strangely, even those who do plenty of exercise, cancel out any benefits if they are otherwise sitting for long periods throughout the day!

It seems to me that this is yet more proof that cancer is a systemic disease, where cancer is the result of a number of unwise behaviours and/or accidental mishaps, regarding the internal system. It is ultimately this system that must be addressed to truly heal cancer, requiring a number of radical changes. Cancer (as established disease) is rarely - if ever - spontaneous. It always has a good number of contributing factors and behaviours that help cause and promote its existence.

As many of us do a great deal of sitting, this is a very important finding that none of us should ignore. And it must surely be even more important for those desiring to fight cancer and eliminate cancer! (especially in the longer term)

So, if you are now living an anti-cancer lifestyle, and doing the right things to eliminate cancer from your life...for good, then be aware that you should refrain from sitting for long periods, keep as active as your health allows, and make sure you do plenty of walking, at the very least. It is advisable you get up and move around every half hour or hour, and take plentiful breaks from this health-degrading activity.

The following is an extract from Jon Barron, regarding cancer.

Sitting Causes Cancer Even if You Exercise
Jon Barron
New studies show that sitting for prolonged periods significantly raises your risk of cancer. We already knew that sitting contributed to diabetes and heart disease, but cancer? Yes, cancer! And even more, that risk exists whether or not you exercise regularly, although short exercise breaks during the day can reduce the risk. To stay healthy, you need to do your exercise, but also, refrain from excess non-stop sitting.

According to research presented at the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), up to 173,000 new cases of cancer could be prevented annually in the US if people sat less. The two types of cancer that seem to be the most influenced by sitting too much include breast cancer, with 49,000 cases annually directly attributed to long periods of sitting, and colon cancer, with 43,000 cases. Scientists also found that less sitting might prevent 37,200 cases of lung cancer, 30,600 cases of prostate cancer, 12,000 cases of endometrial cancer and 1,800 cases of ovarian cancer. And this is a conservative estimate, says Christine Friedenreich of Alberta Health Services in Calgary, Canada, who conducted research on the link between cancer and sedentary lifestyles.
Earlier research turned up similar results. A recent Australian study published a few months ago found that people who spent more than 10 years in sedentary occupations doubled their risk of colon cancer and had a 44 percent increased risk of rectal cancer. Last year, Alma Patel of the American Cancer Society led a study of 123,000 individuals and found that mortality risk rose in proportion to the amount of time people spent in their seats, no matter how much exercise those people engaged in. She also found that the death-by-sitting syndrome affects women far more than it does men....Read Jon Barron's full report Sitting causes cancer, even if you exercise

Sitting at your desk for six hours a day dramatically increases the risk of cancer and diabetes (MailOnline)
Compared with those who reported sitting four hours or less a day, those who sat for more than four hours a day were significantly more likely to report having a chronic disease such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Professor Richard Rosenkranz, who led the study at Kansas State University, said the more people sat, the bigger the health problems.

He said ‘We saw a steady stair-step increase in risk of chronic diseases the more participants sat.

‘The group sitting more than eight hours clearly had the highest risk.’ The latest study follows research last year on 222,000 people which found sitting down too long increases your risk of dying within three years, even among the physically active'. MailOnline: Sitting health risk factors including cancer

Why is sitting so dangerous?

It seems sitting is akin to stagnation, and is the exact opposite of exercise. It gives the body the opportunity to pile on the pounds, while burning minimum calories. Also, blood flow is relatively impaired in the legs and buttocks, which, as we see with long distance plane journeys, can sometimes lead to dangerous blood clots, known as "deep vein thrombosis". That is evidence of clear and obvious sitting-related short-term dangers, but it's quite likely that something unhealthy is going on that has longer term effects too. And our addiction to TV and computers is obviously adding greatly to our sitting habits. On top of this, many people have a job that involves a great deal of sitting....and most even sit while we travel to work. Our comfy life has become a health hazard as bad as smoking! Essentially, chronic INACTIVITY is very bad for your health.

Another consideration is the fact that while sitting, you are probably breathing very shallowly and barely oxygenating your cellular environment, whereas when walking vigourously, for example, you will be pumping oxygen to all areas and maximum oxygenation takes place. And coincidentely, regular prelonged walking is known to help minimise cancer risk, and also improve outcomes.

Damage and Late Effects of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

Late-effects of orthodox cancer treatment most people don't know about...

Image: Office.com
The reason I avoided chemo was the horrendous side-effects associated with that treatment, and the obvious toxicity that the body must endure. However, no-one pointed out the potential late effects that can plague your life thereafter.

Late-effects explained:

Cancer treatments can cause long-lasting health problems, called "late-effects".

The late-effects of cancer treatments are a well known problem in the medical profession, but less understood by the rest of us. These health problems can result years later, including "secondary cancers" i.e. new (different) types of cancer, which can arise due to the damage caused by toxic treatment, as outlined below.

Damage caused by chemo

Medicine is now a high risk industry, like aviation. But, the chance of dying in an aviation accident is one in 2 million, while the risk of dying from a medical accident is one in 200!"
--Dr. Leape of the Harvard Medical School of Public Health

Aspiring doctor kept emotional online diary of battle with terminal cancer caused by chemotherapy Daily Record

A BRAVE medical student whose terminal cancer was triggered by chemotheraphy kept an emotional blog charting her final days.
Stari Gunarathne, 26, of Aberdeen, believed she had beaten lymphoma – only to be told the drugs used to treat her had caused another cancer.

In her first blog entry, on January 27, 2013, she wrote from her hospital bed:

“Two weeks ago, I was told I have an aggressive form of leukaemia that has been caused by the chemotherapy treatment I had three years ago for the Hodgkin lymphoma...The doctors have said this is incredibly rare for this to have happened and now I have to stay in hospital for about five weeks at a time getting intensive chemo to cure the cancer that was caused by the chemo – go figure."  STARI GUNARATHNE, (26)

Two women show the after effects of their cancer treatment. Both have one arm that is painful and useless.

According to Cancer Net conventional cancer treatment, such as chemo and radiotherapy, all potentially have LONG TERM side effects, outlined below.

Long-Term Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

(From cancer.net)

Key Messages:
  • Cancer treatments can cause long-lasting side effects, called late effects.
  • The types of late effects a person experiences vary based on the cancer treatments he or she received.
  • All cancer survivors should receive follow-up care after treatment to watch for and manage any late effects.

Types of late effects

Because late effects are caused by cancer treatments, nearly any type of treatment can cause late effects. Some of the more common late effects are described below. If you are concerned about a particular late effect, please talk with your doctor.
Heart problems. These are most often caused by radiation therapy to the chest and/or chemotherapy, especially if the drugs doxorubicin (Adriamycin) and cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan, Neosar) were used. People age 65 or older and those who received higher doses of chemotherapy have a higher risk of heart problems that may include inflammation (swelling) of the heart muscle, congestive heart failure (a condition where the heart has difficulty pumping blood), or heart disease.
Lung problems. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy to the chest may damage the lungs. Cancer survivors who received both chemotherapy and radiation therapy (for example, a person who has received both treatments for a bone marrow/stem cell transplant) may have a higher risk of lung damage. Some of the drugs that are more likely to cause lung damage include bleomycin (Blenoxane), carmustine (BiCNU), prednisone (multiple brand names), dexamethasone (multiple brand names), and methotrexate (multiple brand names).

The late effects may also include the following:

  • A change in how well the lungs work
  • Thickening of the lining of the lungs
  • Inflammation of the lungs
  • Difficulty breathing

Also listed, we have:

Endocrine (hormone) system problems.

Bone, joint, and soft tissue problems.

Brain, spinal cord, and nerve problems.

Dental and vision problems.

And, importantly...

Secondary Cancers. A secondary cancer is a different type of cancer that appears after the original cancer diagnosis. According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), cancer survivors have a 14% higher risk of developing a new cancer. The development of a secondary cancer is thought to be from previous cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can also damage bone marrow stem cells and increase the chance of either myelodyplasia (a blood cancer where the normal parts of the blood are either not made or are abnormal) or acute leukemia. Talk with your doctor about how to lower the risk of a secondary cancer and how to watch for any signs or symptoms

Side Effects of Chemotherapy on the Body... a virtual guide

If you would like to see a well presented medically reviewed infographic regarding the common side-effects of chemotherapy, Healthline.com recently designed a virtual guide to the effects of chemotherapy on the body. You can see the infographic here: 19 common side effects of chemotherapy

Lyn's story gives a wonderfully frank account of her experiences with chemotherapy, and what she did when it failed. This video provides valuable insights.

Conclusion:

It seems there is quite a significant risk that conventional cancer treatments can leave a legacy of harm and suffering. This is yet another thing to weigh up regarding risks and benefits when considering treatment. There are no easy choices. Of course some cancers, (and associated treatment), may have less risk of such harm than others. It seems a good idea to research this issue further regarding any proposed cancer treatment, and discuss it with your doctors.

In contrast, alternative non-toxic treatments have no such "late-effects" or even any side effects. There is no damage of any kind. And there are many to choose from.

If you have cancer, you owe it to yourself to check out all the alternative options you have before making such an important decision.

Further reading suggestions:
Many natural non-toxic treatments exist that offer far greater success, and are unlikely to cause harm or kill you. I personally refused chemotherapy, (which I felt would finish me off) and followed the The Bill Henderson Protocol which to my mind is one of the best available at the current time, especially as a DIY system you can do at home. Another book I found vital to my understanding of alternative cancer treatment
options is... Outsmart Your Cancer, by Tanya Harter Pierce
Outsmart Your Cancer was the first book I read when I was diagnosed with cancer, and facing 6 months of chemo. There are a good number of alternative treatments explained, so as to provide a considerable choice. It is essential to at least have an understanding of what's out there and available to try. Many of these treatments have been devised by highly qualified people with medical or scientific backgrounds who have an approach that intelligently exploits the few weak spots unique to cancer cells. The science and history behind each protocol is fascinating to say the least.

High Protein Diet Promotes Cancer

Yet more proof... New scientific study shows high protein diet is a killer!

Latest reports indicate that a high protein diet is one of the most devastating things you can indulge in. It is even considered to boost your cancer risk as much as smoking 20 cigarettes a day! Unfortunately we have been brainwashed into believing that protein, and animal protein in particular, is great for our health.

We are talking about ANIMAL PROTEIN....more about that in a moment.

Too much protein could lead to early death, study says

Animal Protien Risk. Image: Office.com
Washington Post: U.S. and Italian researchers tracked thousands of adults for nearly two decades and found that those who ate a diet high in animal proteins during middle age were four times more likely to die of cancer than contemporaries with low-protein diets -- a risk factor comparable to smoking. They also were several times more likely to die of diabetes, and nearly twice as likely to die in general.
“The great majority of Americans could reduce their protein intake,” said one of the study’s co-authors, Valter Longo, a University of Southern California gerontology professor and director of the school’s Longevity Institute. “The best change would be to lower the daily intake of all proteins, but especially animal-derived proteins.”

The Telegraph: March 2014

High-protein diet 'as bad for health as smoking 20 a day!

Research finds that people who eat diet rich in animal protein carry similar cancer risk to those who smoke 20 cigarettes each day

Eating too much protein could be as dangerous as smoking for middle-aged people, a scientific study has found.
Research which tracked thousands of adults for nearly 20 years found that people who eat a diet rich in animal protein are four times more likely to die of cancer than someone with a low protein diet.
The risk is nearly as high as the danger of developing cancer by smoking 20 cigarettes each day.
Previous studies have shown a link between cancer and red meat, but it is the first time research has measured the risk of death caused by regularly eating too much protein.
The US study found that people with a high protein diet were 74 per cent more likely to die of any cause within the study period than their low-protein counterparts. They were also several times more likely to die of diabetes. But this trend appeared to reverse for those aged over 65, researchers found. Read further:  High-protein diet is a killer says Telegraph

The protein problem is especially acute beyond middle age, when the body perhaps finds it more difficult to digest or cope with. Plus there is less need for protein because the body is no longer growing or needing muscle as a younger body may. As we age we tend to slow down, whereas younger people are often so active that they are using protein to renew muscle etc after exercise and other physical activities.

One theory is based on the fact that pancreatic enzymes are used to defend against cancer cells and make them more accessible to the immune system's killer cells. However, if there is a high intake of animal protein, - which is usually harder to digest, presenting a "heavy duty" workload, - then pancreatic enzymes are all otherwise employed. This means cancer cells potentially escape termination.

Note: Almost all alternative cancer treatment doctors and practitioners (or systems) strictly forbid meat and other animal protein, for this very reason. (And others)

The China Study exposed the dangers of protein long ago...

The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health

THE CHINA STUDY reveals startling evidence which shows that...

Rats given a specific carcinogen, (aflatixin) and then fed a 20% ANIMAL PROTEIN DIET, will develop cancer 100% of the time...

But feed them a 5% PROTEIN DIET...and they develop no cancer whatsoever! Zilch!!

The above experiments, carried out by the authors of  "The China Study" T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell, followed earlier experiments conducted in India. At first, nobody believed it could be true. But further identical experiments replicated this phenomenon.
Interestingly, the protein in question is from cows milk. (casein) and...vegitable protein has no such harmful effect.

For more, please read my earlier report on The China Study here: How to turn cancer on and off at will

The China Study was a huge study involving a large population, which strongly indicated a very obvious link between animal protein consumption, and cancer risk. Yet this vital knowledge has been attacked by big business and generally ignored by those in power.

Ever since I read The China Study I have limited my intake of animal protein, because the evidence seemed quite clear. ANIMAL PROTEIN HAS A CLEAR AND OBVIOUS LINK TO PROMOTING CANCER. And many subsequent studies appear to support that evidence.
